Create Core Confidence, Not Situational Confidence.
“Build the habit of going down to ground zero and saying, “fuck it.” (Anonymous)
When we speak of confidence, we must differentiate between the two kinds of confidence that one can develop — core confidence vs situational confidence.
What is core confidence?
Core confidence is the ability to become confident within yourself, regardless of any external factors that may occur. In essence, it is confidence that is only generated by yourself as opposed to external circumstances.
Let’s go through some examples:
Jake sees a cute woman and he decides to approach her to start a conversation. He doesn’t worry about what he’s wearing or how he looks. Instead, he oozes core confidence because he is on purpose and knows what he wants out of the interaction. When something happens that doesn’t go his way, he simply rolls with the punches and moves on, still carrying that quality of core confidence.
Lucy is known as one of the best players on the soccer field. Because she has practiced so much and gained priceless experience, she has a foundation of core confidence. When she steps on the field, all of her troubles go away and she becomes at ease with everything that is happening on the field, whether “good” or “bad.”
