It is very important what not to do.” (Iggy Pop)

We live in a society that is focused on what to do as opposed to what not to do. Success lists, ‘How To’ books, self help advice on what new habit to implement, the list seemingly goes on forever.

I would argue that it is much more important to understand what to avoid and what not to do on our journeys to becoming the strongest versions of ourselves.

Why is focusing on what one should avoid so important?

Focusing on what shouldn’t be done allows you to avoid mediocrity.

By definition, mediocrity is falling into things that one should avoid. The vast majority of people make this mistake and that is why being mediocre in today’s society is so dysfunctional.

You save resources.

Avoiding the things that will cause you more harm than good will save you an unbelievable amount of time, energy, money, so on and so forth.

These saved resources can then go on and be used for more fulfilling and fruitful purposes.

You speed up the process of greatness.
